December 12 was a typical Monday at St Nicholas in Salem, MA. On the previous day, the faithful gathered to celebrate the Sunday Divine Liturgy, and they brought with them their fervent prayers for God’s blessings. As Orthodox, it is our practice to light candles in church as we offer our thanksgiving, praise, and petitions to the Lord our God.
On Monday morning, the candles offered by the faithful were lit once again — all 135 of them! Monday morning is always a special time at St Nicholas. The radiance of the Sunday Liturgy lives on through these candles. And as we say our morning prayers at the start of the week, the flame of Christ’s love for us and for this world burns brightly in our midst. What peace! What joy! Glory to God for all things!
